From the 13th October to the 24th December Anti Gallery is pleased to present Nastassja Clarke’s second and first solo exhibition in Italy. Greatly inspired by the Taoist philosophical tradition, this meditative and intimate photographic series takes you on a journey through a human being’s inner battle between good and evil. Just as there are two sides to every story, there are two sides to every person.
The dual nature of Yin Yang, an ever-changing oneness of opposites makes us realize that shadows cannot exist without light, and two different life forces provide a balance.
Through these nine images we can feel ourselves being transported through the different emotions of the given moment, as if we were floating on a parallel journey with the subject.
To experience intense feelings is often regarded as a sign of weakness, yet without these essential characteristics how can one reach a deeper understanding of one’s soul? To be in touch with your heart is something we should all strive for – appreciating, sharing and caring are qualities we all have, but don’t necessarily show. It takes mindfulness and virtue to come to a fortunate human life.
Being ourselves and following our true meaning is seen as a risky option these days, but without passion, how can one possibly live a life that is truly worthwhile and rewarding?
Between the outer layers of a body is an inner world that is fighting its way to find truth and meaning in the universe. In choosing the path of the mind, body and soul, a deeper awareness of oneness is created. Is there a destiny predetermined for all of us, or is it up to us to create that path? Are you awake to the signs life is giving you?
Self mastery is a challenging discipline and the wounds accumulated along the way can be difficult to heal, but getting to know one’s weaknesses and strengths, and working on finding the balance between Yin and Yang is perhaps the key to a more harmonious life and path.
So perhaps this is the insight we all need. When there is light there is life, but when there is darkness there is growth, and because both elements are ever-changing, they will inevitably keep creeping in and out of our lives.
Let yourself be overwhelmed by the blinding light that makes you feel alive and learn from the darkest hours - it’s all part of growing into a stronger and better version…
Finding stillness in nature has always been the cure to all of my doubts. Shot in a place I hold very dear to my heart, I found myself a little bit more each day while floating amongst the healing properties of this divine water, bringing peace back into my soul.
